MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Pat Connaughton of the Bucks hosted a ribbon-cutting Tuesday for a new basketball court at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.
Connaughton's foundation donated the court as a way to provide a safe and accessible place for kids and families to play basketball.
He says his experience playing hoops as a child helped teach him how to be a "team player" and shaped his values.
He's now paying it forward.
"If I can be even a small part of helping these kids be inspired to shoot for the stars and see where they end up, that's kind of what I believe the bigger purpose is, right? It's bigger than basketball," Connaughton said.
Silver Spring Neighborhood Center on 64th Street offers more than just basketball.
It has meal and child care programs, as well as anti-violence and academic programs.
