Bucks announce tip-off events for opening of season

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee Bucks organization will be celebrating the start of the 2017-18 season with a full slate of community events and ticket giveaways this week. Tip-off Week will feature three community events in advance of the Bucks’ season opener at Boston on Wednesday, October 18. All three events will feature current Bucks players, legends or VolunDeers engaging the community to fulfill the team’s mission of improving the quality of life for youth and families in Wisconsin.

Tip-Off Week will start on Monday, October 16, when Bucks players Sterling Brown, Rashad Vaughn and D.J. Wilson will join VolunDeers from the Bucks to refurbish a basketball court at Kern Park (3614 N. Humboldt Blvd.) with local youth from 2-3:30 p.m. Bucks players and VolunDeers will re-paint the court and provide new backboards and nets for the hoops. The Milwaukee Bucks Dancers, Hoop Troop, Rim Rockers and Bango will assist at the event, which will also feature a Bucks basketball clinic.

The fun continues on Monday night when Gee’s Clippers will host a “Barbershop Monday” with Bucks great Desmond Mason and 20 kids from Safe & Sound. Barbershop Mondays turn local community rooms into barbershops, offering free haircuts to males between the ages of 10 and 23. But it’s more than just a free haircut, as the barbershop chairs are arranged in a circle allowing for an open dialogue among attendees led by Damien Smith, youth coordinator for Safe & Sound. On Monday, Mason will join the Barbershop Monday event at Gee’s Clippers (2200 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.) to discuss generational differences from 5:30-7 p.m.

The final community event of Tip-Off Week, Jam Master Jay’s Lace-Up Milwaukee, is on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Kern Park. Hosted by hip-hop legend DMC of the groundbreaking group Run-DMC, Bucks VolunDeers, along with the Milwaukee Bucks Dancers, Rim Rockers, Hoop Troop and Bango, will be on site with DMC to distribute adidas shoes to 200 kids from seven different youth organizations in Milwaukee. Wednesday’s event will go from 4:45-6 p.m.

Fans also have the opportunity to receive up to two free tickets to the Bucks home opener against the Cavaliers, presented by BMO Harris Bank, on Friday, Oct. 20, if they find Bango at select Wendy’s and Blaze Pizza locations during Tip-Off Week. Bango will be visiting four Wendy’s and one Blaze Pizza restaurant location in the Milwaukee area on Tuesday and Wednesday to distribute tickets to the home opener until supplies last.
