Brookfield police officer injured during traffic stop, subsequent chase

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Brookfield police say an officer was injured Tuesday, May 28 during a traffic stop that escalated into a chase.

The incident started at around 6:44 p.m. when the officer conducted a traffic stop in the Brookfield Square Mall parking lot and the driver reportedly provided false identification.

After the officer attempted to take the suspect into custody, police say that they resisted and drove away, dragging the officer before striking two other cars and stopping. The suspect then allegedly assaulted the officer and fled on foot.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested along with two other people and faces multiple charges.

The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
