MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A family business, Buffalo Boss, originating from New York, is expanding its reach with its first storefront at 540 N. 27th Street. Owner Taj Pearsall reflects on the 9/11 tragedy that prompted him to relocate to Milwaukee from Brooklyn over 20 years ago.

"It was very traumatic," said Pearsall.

Pearsall said he knew of family and friends who worked in the Twin Towers; luckily, all survived. He said his girlfriend at the time, who was pregnant, was trapped downtown.

"It was very traumatic for her, and just for the sake of the pregnancy and the stress levels and stuff, we relocated down here," said Pearsall.

Pearsall has been in Milwaukee for over 20 years.

On Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, Pearsall was supposed to open the doors to his first standalone restaurant, but due to pending inspection approvals, the opening will happen later on in the week. The new location is at a once-vacant lot. Pearsall credits the Near West Side Partners for making it possible.

Buffalo Boss is a family-owned restaurant that originated in New York.

"I just wanted a piece of home here because this was my new home," said Pearsall.

Pearsall said what was supposed to be the opening of his new location meant more than just an accolade.

" 9/11 will always be a day to remember. For once, it will be like a day to remember something good happening and some joy happening so the success of Buffalo Boss and everything that's come to the neighborhood," said Pearsall.
