Brewers take part in groundbreaking for Wisconsin's new Fisher House helping veterans' families

MILWAUKEE-- For Milwaukee Brewers catcher, Jonathan Lucroy, the first pitch at Tuesday night's game was personal.

\"I think what I do is very little compared to what these guys have done,\" said Lucroy.

The man on the mound was Ken Fisher, President and CEO of the Fisher House Foundation.  Fisher Houses provide military families a place to stay, free of charge, when their loved ones are being treated at VA Hospitals nationwide.

\"We have a little fun, but we all remember why we're here today,\" said Fisher, before Tuesday's game.

Lucroy took part in the groundbreaking for the new Wisconsin Fisher House Tuesday afternoon.  Lucroy is one of many donors who will make the facility possible for veterans and their families.

\"It's something I hold dear,\" he explained, \"and it's an important cause I think needs to be taken care of.\"

One of Lucroy's best friends and teammates in college was ambushed when he served in Afghanistan.

\"He almost died,\" Lucroy recalled, \"he almost lost a leg.\"

When members of the armed forces need medical attention-- their families lives are turned upside down.

\"When you think about, and you talk to the men and women in uniform, and those who have worn the uniform, they will tell you, they're not the only ones who serve,\" said Fisher.

The Fisher House will offer free housing to families who live more than 50-miles from Milwaukee.

\"Each and every day this Fisher House is open we will continue to show that we honor the lives that paid the ultimate sacrifice, by ensuring those who live-- continue to get the ultimate dignity and the respect, and the honor, and increasing the love-- that they deserve,\" said Gov. Scott Walker, during the groundbreaking.

The facility is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2015.
