Brewers return to American Family Field as potential traffic nightmare begins
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Brewers will be in action at American Family Field Monday night, hosting the Cincinnati Reds for the first of two exhibition games.
During the offseason, a major construction project began, covering miles of I-94 and surrounding roads.
Closures around American Family Field are bound to have an impact on game day traffic.
With Opening Day on Thursday, the Brewers have been working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to develop a game day traffic plan, which can be found here.
The plan highlights ways to get in and out of the stadium parking lots from all directions, and redirects traffic to roads like Bluemound Road.
Kelly’s Bleachers on Bluemound provides shuttles for every home game, and drivers are keeping an eye on the changes, but are ready to deal with the potential chaos.
“With patience, that’s all you can do,” Kelly’s shuttle driver Donita Burton said. “You apologize to the people for taking so long, but there’s not much you can do, go with the flow.”
Burton has been driving the shuttles for four years, is also a school bus driver, and knows how to deal with managing riders in traffic.
“It’s gonna be the same as it was last year and the year before,” Burton said. “I’m more interested in the people on my bus having fun and getting to the game and enjoying the game and getting them back here all safely.”
