MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are now one of 13 Major League Baseball teams with a City Connect uniform.

The uniforms pay tribute to the team's hometown.

Fans can now get their hands on the Brewers City Connect Jersey at the Team Store at American Family Field.

Fans showed up right as the doors opened Friday, June 17.

"First thing I did when I woke up this morning," said Jake Swance. "I checked Twitter and I saw the jerseys."

In a video the Brewers posted a video showing all of the new uniform's connections to Milwaukee, but they're pretty obvious to a Milwaukeean, starting with the colors--  a nod to the throwback Brewers colors, Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee flag.

The right arm on the jersey has a grill patch.

"Tailgating is definitely part of the culture here in Milwaukee, so I'm glad they were able to bring that in," said Swance.

Front and center on the jersey is the famous team nickname 'Brew Crew'.

"It's the first time we're putting it on a Jersey we're extremely excited," said Shaun Marefka with the Milwaukee Brewers. "I know our fans are excited, and our players, they call them self the Brew Crew so they're excited to wear it as well."

To top off the uniform, the hat has the letters MKE intertwined with the city's area code 414.

It took the team and Nike two years to design the uniforms. The Brewers are calling it a tribute to the city they love.

All of those special details can also be found on other merchandise like sweaters, jackets and t-shirts.

The Brewers will be wearing the uniform for the series against the Toronto Blue Jays and during every Friday home game for the rest of the season.

Until June 24, the merchandise will only be available at the Team Store.
