Brewers minor league player in critical condition after taking pitch straight to his heart

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The player hit by a pitch on August 26 is still in critical condition. Milwaukee Brewers General Manager David Stearns issued the following statement:

“Julio remains in a Phoenix area hospital in critical but stable condition. This continues to be a very serious situation and we send our thoughts and prayers to him. Julio’s family is by his side and asks for privacy at this time.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers say Arizona League third baseman Julio Mendez is hospitalized in critical but stable condition after suffering a "cardiac event" after being hit by a pitch. Yesterday's game between the rookie level teams of the Brewers and Angels was called with one out after Mendez got hurt in the ninth inning. The 20-year-old Mendez has been with the Brewers organization since 2014.
