MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local Brewers fan found a kidney donor after his search went viral on social media. Little did he know, his search would help a total stranger too.
Lenny Zweig wore a T-shirt to a Brewers game last season asking for a kidney. A woman took a picture and posted it online. Emily Nowak saw the photo and called the number on the shirt.
Emily's kidney was too small for Lenny so they created a donor chain. This ensured Zweig got a kidney and Nowak's had a place to go.
My surgery was in the morning, as was the man who donated to Lenny, and then at 10 o'clock they helicoptered ours over to Pittsburgh, his over here, and the recipients actually got their kidneys as well," Nowak said.
Nowak's kidney went to a man in Pittsburgh. Zweig's came from a Pittsburgh man named Michael. They say they even keep in touch with their Pittsburgh donor partners.
All are recovering well.
