MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich signed a nine-year, $215 million dollar deal to stay with the team.
The extension has fans excited about much more than his stats.
"His early years he was mostly a contact hitter now he's a home run guy and that's shown in the last couple years," fan Cody Ortner said.
Brewers fans want to keep Christian Yelich in Milwaukee as long as they can.
For Leanne Holmes, nine years is a good start.
"He's an amazing addition to the team and I hope that he's actually going to be a lifer," Holmes said.
The MVP and two-time national league batting champion hails from California, but has made the Midwest his second home.
"Ever since I came here it just felt like a natural fit, a place that was great for myself and my family, formed a connection with the community, my teammates, and as a player that's what you want," Yelich said during his signing in Phoenix.
And that gives fans more reasons to rep number 22 on their backs.
"He just shows the qualities, I think, in a person and as a player that a Milwaukee Brewers fan really appreciates," fan Greg Jurasovich said.
"I think there's still even better years to come than what we've seen in the last couple years," Ortner added.
Yelich's contract is the largest guarantee given by the Brewers.
It's also a deal where he cannot opt out early, nor can he be traded without his consent.
