MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Building homes for those in need with a little extra star power.
Milwaukee Brewers all-star pitcher Brandon Woodruff was on-hand to help at a Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity building site on Friday, May 20. He and plenty of other volunteers were hard at work building a new home near 3rd and Concordia.
As woodruff attests to, a nice home goes far beyond simply providing shelter.
"It gives me great joy to be apart of an effort that assures a roof over a family's head, stabilizes a home for children that can excel in school, and provide a gathering place to create memories. I think that's what we're all about back home, when the off-season hits, it's just spend as much time with family under our house and just create memories," Woodruff said.
Home ownership has also been shown to reduce crime and promote economic prosperity directly within the community.
