Book bag giveaway at the One Lost Sheep Church in Milwaukee, Saturday, August 1st
He is a man of faith who loved to cook up fish for the neighborhood.
But one year, two little girls came to Minister James Nelson and said could he maybe help them get a book bag so they could be like the other kids at school.
Over the years the event has grown. So much so that he had to move the annual giveaway from his house to the One Lost Sheep Church at
2567 N. 8th Street in Milwaukee.
Saturday, August 1st will be a day filled with fellowship and song and, yes, fish.
Minister Nelson was a special live guest on the CBS 58 News at 4 p.m.
He says if there are people out there in a position to donate and provide more book bags they should call (414) 514-1500.
Here are the details of the event from noon to 5 p.m. The child must be present to receive the book bag.
Free food and refreshments. Face paint and children's games.
12 Noon, \"Victory Over Violence\" prayer for peace and community healing.
14 agencies will set up booths with information on education and training.
Non stop gospel music concert located inside.
There will also be mimes, praise dancers and a gospel competition.
Special Guest will be Milwaukee's own Harvey Scales singing \"God's got your Back\"
Guest Speakers: Mayor Tom Barrett, Nate and Maria Hamilton (Brother, Mother of Dontre Hamilton)
Rep. Leon D. Young is a major sponsor.
It's hoped as many as 450 young people will attend.
