CBS 58 OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In Oak Creek, the Bender Park boat launch is open again.
There was a reopening ceremony on Tuesday, May 19, marking the end of a major dredging project.
They've had a problem at Bender Park with sediment accumulation making it difficult for boats to launch.
That can be dangerous especially if someone needs to be rescued offshore.
Milwaukee County Supervisor Steve Taylor says that this latest dredging operation is kind of a temporary fix.
"It's inevitable that it will be needed to be dredged again, however based on the water levels of Lake Michigan, based on currents. So we really don't know. I mean the last time we did it was 2013 and it needed it a decade later," Taylor said.
Taylor says the permanent solution to the access problem would be to build a breakwater at Bender Park. He estimates that would cost $7 to $8 million.
