Board approves measure to declare Milwaukee County as a sanctuary for transgender and non-binary people

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County board approved a measure to declare Milwaukee County as a sanctuary for transgender and non-binary people on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The board passed the Trans Sanctuary Resolution in a vote 12-4.

It is a preventative measure. If the state passes a law that criminalizes receiving gender affirming care, this resolution calls for the sheriff's office to make enforcing it their lowest priority.

It also states that gender affirming care is considered a part of health care, so anyone in Milwaukee County should have access to it.

In June, the Dane County Board also approved a Trans Sanctuary Resolution.
