Blue dye helping Kenosha woman with spinal injury

KENOSHA- On Saturday, Cindy Nowak was hit by a truck after she slipped and fell while walking her dog.

She suffered a traumatic back injury as a result.

\"The doctors said that there is a very slim chance that she'll be able to walk,\" Cindy's son Ryan said.

On Sunday, while at Froedtert Hospital, she was given blue dye to help treat her injury.

Her family said she is one of forty people in the United States receiving this type of treatment.

In 2009, researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center found that the blue dye helps reduce inflammation in traumatic spinal injuries like the one Cindy suffered, while also preventing further damage.

Cindy is still in the hospital and it's still too early to tell how the treatment worked.
