NOW: ’Big for our city, big for our team’: Brewers fans react to Murphy, Weeks promotions

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The shock of Craig Counsell leaving his hometown Brewers for the Chicago Cubs is still wearing off for some fans of the Crew. The former player turned manager had captured the hearts of the fanbase and made the team serious contenders in the NL Central each year.

Now, fans will have to look to one of Counsell's former coaches, Pat Murphy to lead the team, and while there are a lot of unknowns, there is some excitement for the future.

"I'm excited for something new," said fan Chris Hultz. "I'm going to miss (Counsell), I thought he was pretty good for us. We'll see what the new guy has."

Spending the last eight seasons as the Brewer's bench coach, Murphy is familiar with the workings of the team and organization. By his side, he'll have a Brewers fan-favorite in Rickie Weeks working as the team's Associate Manager.

Weeks, a former second baseman who helped the Brewers end their playoff drought in 2008, is hopeful to experience similar success with his new role in the dugout.

"Going back and seeing the experience, you want that same feeling again, obviously," Weeks said. "Being back to assist Murph and his staff; it feels great."

Hultz and his fellow fans are hopeful for that same success, too.

"Bringing back the memories of playoff time, we weren't in the playoffs for a long time until (Weeks) and the crew came. Great memories. Keeping the Brewer family together, that's big for our city, it's big for our team."
