MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is reminding shoppers to use caution ahead of Mother’s Day, as national spending is projected to reach $33.5 billion.
Andy Ketchum, vice president of operations for the Wisconsin BBB, joined us Monday, May 5 to talk about some common risks and prevention tips.
The National Retail Federation estimates 84% of U.S. adults will celebrate Mother’s Day, with average spending around $259. Online purchase scams are among the top consumer threats, according to the BBB’s Annual Risk Report.
Shoppers are advised to use secure websites, verify florists before placing orders and keep receipts for electronics and jewelry. Gift cards should be checked for restrictions and tampering. Experience gifts such as classes or dining should include clear terms and cancellation policies.
