MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Bell Ambulance is taking the city to court after a crash involving a Milwaukee police squad totaled one of its medical vehicles.

The crash happened near 30th and Burleigh around 8pm on June 21, 2022. According to court documents, a City of Milwaukee police squad car ran a stop sign during a police chase before hitting a bell ambulance.

Fortunately, no one was hurt but the ambulance was totaled.

Officials with Bell Ambulance say right now medical vehicles are in short supply due to manufacturing issues, so it took about a year for a replacement. Bell filed a claim for the cost, but the city denied it, which is what led to the lawsuit.

Chris Anderson is Director of Operations for Bell Ambulance. He says the lawsuit is nothing personal, simply an attempt for the company to recoup what it lost in the crash.

"This is nothing against the city. Certainly nothing against the police department. We work with the men and women of the police department every day. It's purely like an insurance claim. A financial transaction. There are no personal feelings involved," said Anderson.

CBS 58 reached out to the city attorney's office for comment on the lawsuit and is still waiting to hear back.
