MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- People are flocking outdoors today to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.
South Shore Terrace is opening its beer garden for the season.
The festivities are kicking off right now, which means free beer for visitors.
It's officially beer garden season and a beautiful day for it.
Here at South Shore, last year was record-breaking, with over 80,000 pints of beer served.
We saw folks lining up early just before 4, waiting for the gates to open today.
Officials say they're staffed and ready for the night.
This is all bigger than just beer gardens.
Throughout Milwaukee County are an important part of our community, bringing in revenue that goes right back into the parks.
"Beer gardens are great for our parks system," said Joe Mrozinski of the Milwaukee County Parks. "We actually generated $2.8 million for the parks last year with our gardens. That helps support things like the playgrounds, hiking trails, biking trails, community centers and things like that so you're not only getting a great beer and food in the parks, you're supporting the parks, so come on out."
County Executive David Crowley is here for the kickoff.
They are open from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m on the weekends.
