WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin's Better Business Bureau wants consumers to be on alert.
Cybercriminals are preying on the vulnerable.
Phishing scams are becoming more complicated, the BBB says. Normally, scammers would try and lure you by promising a reward, threatening punishment, or getting you to open a malicious file.
The BBB says don't take the bait.
"If you're getting an email and you have kind of a weird feeling about it, call that individual up and say 'Hey did you really send this to me? What is this about?' Because there are so many fakes out there and they just lead to more and more scams," said Jim Temmer with the BBB.
The BBB also recommends changing your passwords every so often and updating your security software. You should also delete any unused files containing personal information.
