Bayshore to host giant Gelt Drop at largest Chanukah Festival in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The largest Chanukah celebration in the state is coming to Bayshore Mall tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 30. It will include a giant Gelt Drop, and more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The public is welcome to attend the free Chanukah celebration as the community spreads the message of light and Jewish pride during the third night of Chanukah.

In addition to a giant Gelt Drop of traditional chocolate coins, where children of all ages can collect the many coins as it "rains" down from above, a super-sized Menorah will be also be lit.

“Chanukah is a holiday of light and freedom, where few overcame the many, and light triumphed over darkness,” said Rabbi Mendel Shmotkin, CEO of Lubavitch. “Especially in recent months where we’ve see heightened anti-Semitism, we need to strengthen our Jewish pride and spread light and goodness to combat this darkness. This event demonstrates this a most powerful way!”

There will also be warm drinks, hot food and beer for sale.

The event starts at 5:00 p.m.
