Bayshore to host annual Chanukah Festival, including giant Gelt Drop

GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Bayshore is set to become the focal point of Chanukah celebrations in Wisconsin with the hosting of the state's largest Chanukah Festival, featuring a giant Gelt Drop.

The festival is anticipated to draw about 2,000 attendees and will begin on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m.

There will be a variety of activities, from the giant Gelt Drop of traditional chocolate coins to a drone light show, offering a contemporary twist to the traditional celebration. Additional features include LED robot dancers, train rides, kids' crafts, as well as music.

Rabbi Mendel Shmotkin, CEO of Lubavitch of Wisconsin, shared his insights on the festival's significance in a press release, "Chanukah is a holiday of light and freedom, where few overcame the many, and light triumphed over darkness."

Addressing recent concerns over increased anti-Semitism, he underscored the need for strengthening Jewish pride and spreading positivity. Shmotkin also highlighted the event's accessibility, noting its free admission for people of all ages.

As part of the celebration, a super-sized Menorah will be lit, symbolizing the enduring spirit of light and freedom that Chanukah represents. The event will be orchestrated by Lubavitch of Wisconsin.
