COLORADO (CBS 58) -- A local war hero is being remembered on the 50th anniversary of his death.
The Air Force Academy honored Captain Lance Sijan with a special ceremony in Colorado on Monday.
The Bay View native was an Air Force Fighter Pilot who flew more than 50 combat missions in Vietnam. His plane crashed in November of 1967. He was captured and later died of pneumonia in captivity. Sijan and his roommate are the only cadets to have buildings at the academy named after them.
"Today I see in the big picture, the two roommates of 71 have succeeded beyond comparison."
The remembrance ceremony also included a display of Sijan's belongings and the singing of the Air Force song in his honor.
