Basilica of Saint Josephat Campaigning for $7.5 Million for Repairs

Milwaukee's historic and spectacular St. Josaphat Basilica needs repairs. Its foundation is now trying to raise 7.5 million dollars to fix up one of only two basilicas in this region.

Some of the repairs are described as urgent. Susan Rabe, CEO and President of the foundation, said that most what needs to be fixed is in the exterior of this building. This includes cracked and missing sandstone as well as restoration of the stained glass inside.

The St. Josephat Basilica Foundation's mission is to preserve and restore the basilica as a landmark.

This church is modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. It was built 115 years ago at the corner of 6th and Lincoln Streets.

The Basilica features art work, architecture, and the story of polish immigrants in Milwaukee.

They'll kick off their campaign tomorrow morning at 9 at cathedral square in downtown Milwaukee.
