KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A baby born right off I-94 in Kenosha County is finally home with his family.

It's a night Holly and William Leppert of Sturtevant will never forget. "He was coming no matter what. I said pull over, my husband pulled over, and I just got ready to catch him," Holly said.

With their two other young boys, Oliver and William in the back of the car, they hoped to make it to St. Catherine’s Medical Center to deliver their newborn Nathan, but the snow covered roads made it impossible.

"The roads were really messy, they didn't plow yet, so we started in one direction and then we decided, oh no, we better go to the highway."

Holly was having frequent contractions, so her husband William called 911.

"Outside I was calm, but inside I was a nervous wreck, because it was so cold out there I didn't know what to do," he said.

Allison George, deputy with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call. "It was essentially in the middle of a blizzard,” she said. “Mom is in the passenger seat of the car and she just assumed the position, and I think she yelled to me, ‘it's coming!’ I just stepped in and did what we were trained to do."

Baby Nathan was born full-term at 8 pounds 5 ounces. However, he did have some complications. "Because of the cold, his lungs got a little junky and he had pneumothorax, so that's why he had to be transferred to the NICU at St. Joe's."

Two weeks later, he's fully recovered from the respiratory problems. "He's just a strong-willed little boy, so he recovered pretty quickly...and now we're home," Holly said.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department presented the family a plaque appointing baby Nathan as a junior deputy.
