Ashes on the Go At Marquette University
Marquette University part of a increasing trend of providing ashes on the go for the faithful who can't make it to mass or church services for Ash Wednesday.
Students can pass through Union Hall and receive the ashes on their foreheads as a sign of mortality and repentance heading into Lenten season leading up to Easter.
The ashes will be available until 3 p.m.
The school also scheduled several masses at different times throughout today.
Celebrations of Ash Wednesday began at 8 a.m. at the Chapel of the Holy Family. Another mass was scheduled for noon at the same location.
There is also a 6 p.m. Ecumenical Worship Service with Distribution of Ashes, AMU, Chapel of the Holy Family.
Additionally, there is a 9 p.m Mass with Distribution of Ashes, AMU, Church of the Gesu.
During Lent, many Christians will fast and give up something as a symbol for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
