As the snow piles get higher, firefighters are stressing how important it is to clear the snow away from the hydrants in your neighborhood.
On Sunday, North Shore firefighters could not use the closest hydrant to a fire because it was burried in snow. Luckily, there was a cleared fire hydrant close by.
"Just because it's not your hydrant in your front yard, be a hydrant champion and help a neighbor out, help an elderly person who maybe has that hydrant in their front yard and can't clear it," said Captain Dan Tyk with North Shore Fire & Rescue.
The time it takes for fire crews to find a hydrant can make a big difference in an emergency.
