ArtBlaze returns to Milwaukee with new location and dates

Joy Engine

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Joy Engine will bring its ArtBlaze summer series back to Milwaukee with a new schedule and beachside setting. The free public event, which combines art installations, live music and family activities, will relocate to McKinley Beach and shift to Thursdays.

The nonprofit public art organization announced the update Tuesday, June 24 with dates scheduled for July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each night. The series previously took place at Bradford and South Shore beaches.

This year’s centerpiece will be a temporary interactive sculpture titled "HydroBloom," designed by FuzzPop Workshop along with UW-Milwaukee architecture students. The structure will span nearly 1,000 feet and feature light-sensitive materials that react to motion.

Activities will include live music by performers such as The Quilz and DJ Gemini Gilly, a silent disco, arts vendors and s’mores along the lakefront.

Organizers expect to release a full entertainment schedule in the coming weeks.
