Apartment building damaged by fire Sunday night

The Red Cross is assisting the residents of a 24-unit apartment building in Milwaukee displaced by a fire Sunday night.  The two-alarm fire was reported in a two story, multi-family apartment building around 9:30 PM at N 76th Street and W Sheridan Avenue.  According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the fire began in a first floor apartment and then extended to the 2nd floor of the building causing an estimated $500,000 in damage.  There were working smoke detectors in the building and everyone got out unharmed.  Two Red Cross Disaster Action Teams were assisting the residents of the complex with financial assistance for food, shelter and clothing.   The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Milwaukee Fire Department and Milwaukee Police Department.
