MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – For many people, July 4 means cooking out with family, but some have no place to go.
The 6th annual Peaceful Picnic in Milwaukee provided a meal for the homeless or those at-risk of becoming homeless.
The event is put on by the MacCannon Brown Sanctuary Organization. They say many people within the city are disadvantaged and need to feel supported, even on days like Independence Day.
“In all of this city there are a number of people who do not have barbecues and family gatherings and they really deserve to be considered part of the American celebration and sitting at the American table,” Sister MacCannon Brown said. “We feel very strongly, very strongly about that.”
The event ran until 4 p.m.
