The new Northwestern Mutual building is a mix of the old and the new.
Visitors walked through the south building built between 1912 and 1914, which then leads into the new and modern Atrium and then into The Commons.
To kick off the debut, Northwestern Mutual employees had their annual meeting, 5K and 10K. After the run, they got a tour inside the new headquarters.
“To be able to run along the lake shore and see our new building, it’s awesome. There is a pride factor," said Ross Reitsma, from South Dakota.
For the last 13 years, Reitsma has participated in the 5K but this is the first time he's seen the new building.
Workers in Milwaukee said they are excited to work in the second tallest building in the state.
“It’s a modern touch in Milwaukee and I think it compliments the other architecture and it represents the company that it is today," said Cynthia Reynolds.
The Commons area is not just for the workers. There will be a museum and Starbucks which will be open to the public from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The building will open on August 21st and employees will start moving in on the 25th.
