MADISON, Wis (CBS 58) - This will be year seven of the American Family Insurance Championship. The annual tournament not only brings competitive golf, a fan favorite celebrity event, but also raises money for charity.

"It's beyond all our expectations," said Steve Stricker, player and host in the championship. "I don't think we ever imagined where we're at today."

Since the tournament's inception in 2016, the AmFam Championship has raised nearly $15 million for the American Family Children's Hospital and other charities. It's one of the major reasons this is one of Stricker's favorite events.

"The culmination of people having a good time, raising money for great causes definitely puts a smile on my face," said Stricker.

This is the first of two PGA Tour Champions events in Wisconsin this year. The other is the U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld in Stevens Point from June 29-July 2. Stricker has won that tournament as a part of his 13 wins on the Champions Tour. But, he has yet to win the AmFam Championship.

"I'd love to win this more than any event out on the Champions Tour. hopefully we can put everything together and have that opportunity and get into contention on Sunday and see if I can," said Stricker.

Sticker is currently at the top of the PGA Tour Champions standings for the Charles Schwab Cup following Stricker's win at Regions Tradition on May 14, his second win this season.

This year's celebrity foursome will have the shine of an Olympic gold medal. 28-time Olympic medalist swimmer Michael Phelps joins Baseball Hall of Famer and 5-time World Series champion Derek Jeter, this year's Team U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson, and host Andy North.

"Super excited about where we're out with these four guys. Look forward to having them out there and the fans being able to experience their golf," Stricker said with a laugh.

Competition begins at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Friday, June 9 and runs through the Sunday, June 11. The celebrity foursome tees off on Saturday, June 10.
