American Red Cross of Wisconsin volunteer reflects on August 2025 floods
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – It’s been a year since a record-breaking amount of rain hit Southeast Wisconsin in August 2025 flooding.
American Red Cross of Wisconsin volunteers, including Cindy Milgram, were some of the first people aiming to support those who were impacted.
“As we were driving through these communities in our emergency response vehicles, we were providing food, water, and shelter,” Milgram said. “We would come around the corner, and you would see people’s lives in their front yard.”
Close to 500 homes sustained major damage or were destroyed by the flooding. After touring some of the damage, Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency. In response to the disaster, more than 280 Red Cross volunteers worked around the clock to provide safe shelter, food and water.
“That’s the power of the red vest,” Milgram said. “When the torrential storms moved through Milwaukee and created some devastating flooding, the Red Cross was there to answer the call.”
