MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As the summer months continue, the American Red Cross continues to deal with an emergency blood shortage.

This is a common occurrence during summer as hospitals see an influx in trauma cases while donors become less frequent.

The Red Cross says they are just days away from declaring a blood supply crisis.

"I donate blood because I know that it can't be manufactured, that's really meaningful to me because it means that humans are the only way that hospitals have blood and I want to be in that seat even for someone I don't know so they have what they need in an emergency," said Catherine Rabenstine, CEO for American Red Cross of Wisconsin.
