'I’ve never felt so utterly scared': American Israeli opens up about Jewish hate
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Israel, as of Monday, is now in its third day of war with the Hamas terrorist group, and one American Israeli woman living in the Holy Land shares what she’s been through and how Jewish hate needs to stop.
“I’ve never felt so utterly scared, and not just scared but also hated...because they want to wipe out the Jewish nation,” said Sheli Gurmet, with tears in her eyes.
Grumet spoke to CBS 58 News via zoom about how she has a dual citizenship -- born and raised in the U.S. and moved to Israel eight years ago.
"(It's) the biggest shooting, I think, I’ve ever seen, even as an American understanding what a mass shooting is,” she said.
"On Saturday morning, which was the morning of a very holy holiday in the Jewish religion called Simchat Torah, we woke up to sirens; I live in Tel Aviv and the sirens reached up to central Israel, one landed right next to my house."
Grumet explained that at the same time, a massacre occurred at a music rave where Israelis were celebrating the holiday weekend.
Her husband's cousin was actually there, and luckily, made it out safe.
"Since the Holocaust, the amount of Jews that were killed in a single day, this has not occurred since then,” Grumet said.
She said people need to understand that Israel declared war only after it was violently attacked. She insisted the conflict is about human rights and she will not let history repeat itself.
"This is the time not to leave, not to abandon my country," she concluded.
Grumet says her message to the public is not to follow political correctness but to fight and stand in solidarity with what's right and just. She said there is a lot of fake news stemming from the country and she hopes people are able to differentiate what is the real truth.
