WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – An alternate care facility will soon open its doors inside the Exposition Center at State Fair Park.
It’ll help aid in the fight against COVID-19.
In a matter of ten days, construction was completed.
The inside of the expo center has been transformed into a care facility for upwards of 750 patients. The Army Corps of Engineers led the design and procurement of the site which was constructed by Gilbane Federal Inc.
It was completed on Saturday, and the keys were handed over to the state.
The faculty will be made up of paid and volunteer positions that include doctors, nurses, and registrars.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett commended all the hard work that has gone into getting the site up and running.
“The personnel that is running the facility is in conversation with different health care systems,” said Mayor Barrett. “I would say that’s going along very, very well. I want to thank everybody that’s been involved in that. That has been a phenomenal effort to get that up and running.”
The director of public affairs from State Fair Park says they’re still training staff. They plan on opening in the coming days.
