Alliant Energy crews continue to restore power throughout Walworth County

COMO, Wis (CBS 58) - Alliant Energy crews have been working around the clock in Walworth County to restore power since Friday, when a storm knocked out power for thousands.

At one point, there were 12,000 customers without power throughout the county.

“Immediately upon assessment it was clear that this was going to be a multi-day restoration effort due to the severity of the tree damage, the natural debris that was going to need to be removed before we could get in there and get to the poles, lines, wires,” Alliant Energy spokesperson Melissa McCarville said.

Paul Trovillion lives in Como, one of the hardest hit areas during the storm.

“The power was off since Friday and it finally went on Sunday night,” Trovillion said. “It was miserable, it’s just like camping out, don’t open your windows, get a lantern going, listen to the radio and grill out like you're camping out.”

Crews continue to fight through debris along power lines.

“Crews have been working in those hardest hit areas, and the restoration process will slow a little bit due to that heavier amount of natural debris, it has to be removed in order for us to make the repairs,” McCarville said.

McCarville says 90% of the initial 12,000 outages will be resolved by Tuesday morning.

“Even on a holiday weekend we work around the clock to make sure our customers have their power restored as safely and efficiently as we can,” McCarville said.
