MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local lawmaker is raising security concerns Friday after a shooting scare at a city building

Police swarmed the Zeidler municipal building Thursday after reports of shots fired on the fourth floor.

The building was evacuated, and nearby City Hall was also searched by police.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson says this may have happened because of a recently fired employee.

"Somebody was terminated and must've been disappointed by that news, and perhaps slammed a door one or multiple times, and that created a loud noise that perhaps sounded like gunfire," Mayor Johnson said.

The mayor says police didn't find any bullet casings. MPD says they are still investigating.

We spoke with Alderman Lamont Westmoreland Friday morning, who's now raising security concerns.

Westmoreland says he was out of office when City Hall was evacuated, and he didn't know an emergency was taking place.

"There is a text alert system that should send us -- those of us who sign up -- and the text should say, 'Don't come in. Stay away.' It didn't happen," Ald. Westmoreland said.

He's also pushing for metal detectors in the Zeidler building.
