AAA Kicks Off Schools Open, Drive Carefully Campaign

It is a big week for students heading back to school an exciting time for most kids, but also dangerous on the roads.

A recent UW-Milwaukee study found between 2011 and 2013.

There are 1300 children under the age of 18 were hit by cars.

That is why AAA is kicking off its annual schools open, drive carefully campaign.

With more kids in crosswalks, it is important for drivers to slow down and to stay alert.

Parents need to talk with their children, especially those under 10 on how to stay safe.

It is important parents explain to their children that they need to give themselves enough time to walk at a cautious pace to stop at every intersection, look at both ways, right left and right again.

Drivers are reminded to avoid distractions caused by cell phones or the radio.
