According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, a man was attempting to shoot a woodchuck which was on his property, when a bullet ricocheted off trees and struck the 80-year-old Fond du Lac man.

Authorities say the man's injury was not life-threatening. He was transported by Theresa EMS to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac where he was treated and is expected to be released.

The incident remains under investigation.

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt would like to remind the public when shooting firearms, it is always very important to know your target and beyond. Firearms are capable of shooting long distances and it is always necessary to have a backstop that can sufficiently stop a bullet from traveling beyond that which is desired.
