KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Illinois man who shot at deputies and injured a K-9 in Bristol while trying to escape from officers was sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Allan Brown, 35, will spend 57-and-a-half years behind bars.

The incident happened in October of 2021.

In March, a jury found Brown guilty of nine counts, including three counts of first-degree reckless endangering of safety.

This, after Chicago police say he shot and killed two people before fleeing to Kenosha.

Thanks to a tip from those officials, Kenosha County Sheriff's Department deputies were able to locate Brown, who was driving one of his victim's vehicles.

Security footage shows Brown take off running before firing shots at deputies, and then at K-9 Riggs -- shooting the dog in the forehead before a deputy returned fire and struck him.

After undergoing surgery, K-9 Riggs survived and has since fully recovered.

“He’s completely healthy, he’s getting older, he’s almost 11, so he’s going to retire soon," said his handler, Deputy Terry Tifft with the KSD. "It’s good to have this all over so I don’t have to think about it anymore.”

Others echoed Tifft's sentiments, adding they've waited a long time for justice to be served.

In court, Judge Anthony Milisaukas addressed Brown directly, noting that this is "emotional because of the victims."

"They're going to have to deal with this for the rest of their lives," Milisaukas said.

Brown declined an opportunity to give a statement in court.

He is also facing charges for the homicides in Illinois, but the judge did not take those into consideration for the sentencing, instead only focusing on the crimes committed in Wisconsin.

"I have all the confidence in the world in K-9 Riggs," Tifft told CBS 58. “Now we’re back to work and we’ll be on the streets protecting the citizens of Kenosha County.”
