5-Year-Old started Oshkosh House Fire, Officials say
(WFRV) Officials say that the cause of the fire is now being ruled as accidental.
Investigators say that the fire was started by a five-year-old playing with a lighter.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home.
Fire officials want to remind parents to keep their lighters and matches in places where children cannot get them.
One person was injured after a fire in Oshkosh Tuesday night.
At 6:01 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 300 West 6th Avenue for a fire.
Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the back of the home, but firefighters were able extinguish the fire quickly.
All eight people in the home were able to make it out of the house, but a man was treated for a hand injury on scene.
The family is receiving assistance from the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Officials say that the fire is being ruled suspicious at this time and is being investigated by the Oshkosh Police Department.
