5 staff members at Longfellow Middle School test positive for COVID-19

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Longfellow Middle School in Wauwatosa is turning to virtual learning "temporarily."

Parents were notified in a letter on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The superintendent for the Wauwatosa School District said five employees tested positive for COVID-19.

Longfellow students will attend virtual classes now through Sept. 11.

The letter to parents reads in part:

"We have proactively planned for this scenario, and we have taken immediate action in the interest of everyone’s health and safety. As soon as we were notified, our District Nurse worked quickly with local health departments to conduct contact tracing and staff members were notified that they must work from home. Per our established protocol, we have temporarily closed the building so that we can thoroughly clean and disinfect."

School officials hope to go back to hybrid learning on Monday, Sept. 14.
