MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a Greenfield man who was shot overnight.

It happened near 79th and Fiebrantz around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 15. 

According to police a 41-year-old Greenfield man, identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office as Gregory Fabian, sustained fatal injuries despite lifesaving efforts. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Neighbors say this is a quiet area, but several tell me they heard gunshots and loud bangs early this morning.

Many residents also say their concerned about potential illegal activity happening in their community.

"Somebody will be over here for maybe five, ten minutes just sitting in their car and then another vehicle would come by exchange for, like, a second or two and then they both leave," a neighbor told CBS 58. "I don't like it. I know the cops know about it and they've tried looking for people but what can you do. They show up and nobody's here. There's not much that can be done."

In an emailed statement, Milwaukee Police told CBS 58: 

"The circumstances are unknown and under investigation. Public safety is the Milwaukee Police Department's main priority. We are committed to working with our community and system partner's to build sustainable neighborhoods free of crime that are built on positive relationships."
