THERESA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Southeast Wisconsin is full of one-of-a-kind places. Whether it’s to cheer on the Packers or cheese making, people travel from all over to experience the culture.

Widmer’s Cheese Cellar is one of those places. For 102 years, the Widmer family has been making cheese in dodge county.

“My great grandfather came over from Switzerland. When he was 18 years old, he had a cheese making job in Wisconsin,” said Joey Widmer, 4th Generation cheese maker. “He worked there for a while and then when he was 40, in 1922, he bought the facility we’re standing in right now.”

Brick cheese was created in Dodge County. Today, people can still come in and watch the cheese makers at work at Widmer’s.

“We’re one of the only factories where you can come in and actually see the cheese making process from the retail store,” said Widmer.

The visitors log at Widmer’s shows people from all over the country have visited in just the last couple months, as far as Alaska, Texas and Hawaii.

The best time to watch the Widmer’s make cheese is Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., but they recommend calling ahead.
