MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 34-year-old man is dead following a shooting that happened near 32nd and Hampton on Monday, July 31. 

Family identified him as 34-year-old Wesley Ward Jr. He leaves behind three children. Ward's family did not want to be on camera but share how he'll be remembered.

"A father of three. Every time you seen that young man, he was smiling," said Jacqueline Ward, mother of the victim.

Police said the shooting occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m on 4900 block of 52nd street.

Trinika Walker, founder of the Stop the Violence 53206 non-profit, said gun violence is out of control on Milwaukee's North side.

"It's happening over and over again," said Walker.

Her non-profit also helps family deal with grief of losing a loved one to gun violence. Walker was around the corner when she heard of the shooting.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation. Police are still seeking the unknown suspect of suspects.
