3 in custody after Elkhorn home invasion, pursuit ends in Lake Geneva crash

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three people are in custody after an alleged burglary led to a police pursuit and crash, starting in Elkhorn and ending in Lake Geneva, Saturday, Feb. 3.

Elkhorn police say a homeowner called 911 just before 6 p.m. to report that their home on Fair Meadow Lane was being burglarized. The caller was not home, but was watching live video from their residence.

Officers arrived minutes later and saw a "suspicious" vehicle leaving the area. The officer followed and attempted to stop the vehicle on Highway 11 by the Elkhorn Area Middle School, however the driver failed to stop and a pursuit began.

While fleeing police, the suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds over 90 miles per hour, according to police, traveling into the City of Lake Geneva. The vehicle attempted to pass a pickup but struck the curb, lost control and hit the back passenger side corner of the pickup, and entered the northbound lane of traffic when it was struck by another vehicle on White River bridge.

Police say the occupants of the fleeing vehicle ran onto US Highway 12. One occupant was apprehended on the side of the highway after the officer used a Taser. Two others were taken into custody shortly after with assistance of K-9s and drones.

Authorities say two occupants in the northbound vehicle that struck the suspect vehicle were taken to a local medical facility and released with minor injuries. The pickup driver was uninjured.

Officials say this burglary is not related to the double homicide investigation from Feb. 1 in the city of Elkhorn.

They say the three suspects taken into custody are believed to be part of a larger organized group that targets the homes of Asian business owners.

A 16-year-old boy from Chicago was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest; 31-year-old Jame Rodriguez of New Jersey was arrested for party to burglary, fleeing causing injury, contributing to the delinquency of a child and resisting arrest, and 24-year-old Harol Canter Rocha, of Illinois, was arrested for burglary, possession of burglarious tools, contributing to the delinquency of a child, criminal damage and resisting arrest.

The homeowners reported nothing appeared to have been taken from the residence.

An investigation is ongoing.
