23-year-old motorcyclist dead after Washington County crash

RICHFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) --- A 23-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a tree in Washington County on Sunday, July 18. 

Officials say it happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Hubertus Road in the Village of Richfield. 

The 23-year-old Washington County resident was transported to a Menomonee Falls hospital and later flown to a hospital in Wauwatosa. 

The operator of the motorcycle later died due to his injuries. 

An initial investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Hubertus Road at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the roadway. Officials say the man's name is not being released at this time. 

Witnesses told police the motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet, but was severely injured and began CPR shortly after locating the unconscious male driver, officials say.

The crash marks the fourth fatal motor vehicle crash for Washington County this year. 

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Richfield Fire Department responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
