PASADENA, Calif. (CBS 58) -- For the first time in 75 years, the Tournament of Roses Parade will not take place on Jan. 1.
Officials canceled the 2021 event in Pasadena, California due to coronavirus fears.
The globally watched parade is held every Jan. 1, except when New Year's Day falls on a Sunday.
Since its inception in 1891, the parade has been canceled just three times until today, during the wartime years of 1942, 1943, and 1945.
With tremendous disappointment, we are unable to host the 2021 #RoseParade. We will miss the joy of coming together for the Rose Parade, but will not miss this opportunity to celebrate a New Year & healthy new beginnings on January 1. READ MORE: https://t.co/ZRxXhxNWKF pic.twitter.com/YbobU3PmmZ
