2 Young Girls Killed in Crash in Western Wisconsin

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Clark County Sheriff reports two children have died following weekend car crash. According to a news release, the crash happened around 6 p.m. Saturday on Granton Road east of Neillsville in the Township of Grant.

Initial investigation indicates a Chevy minivan was traveling east on Granton Road when the driver, Aurelia Perez-Amador, 23, lost control on a patch of mixed snow, slush and ice.

The van then entered the north ditch and tipped onto its passenger side. The top of the van then struck a large tree collapsing the passenger compartment. The operator of the van was flown by helicopter to the St. Joseph's Hospital for her injuries but the other occupants, her two girls, ages 3 and 5, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said speed and road conditions appear to be factors in the accident. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and the two children were not restrained.

The Granton Area Fire Department and First Responders, Spirit Air Helicopter and the Neillsville Area Ambulance responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Coroner's Office. The Investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff's and Coroner's Office.
